My kiwiana art collection started when I decided to paint an L&P bottle. Inspired by the giant one in nearby Paeroa and the blooming Kowhai trees in spring, I sketched out my painting idea. From that painting and creative process came more ideas for New Zealand inspired artworks. My ideas for art usually come to me at night when I should be asleep or on my weekly bush walks. For a month or two my imagination was filled with all things kiwiana – jandals, buzzy bees and baking powder tins! My favourite painting in this series is the iconic Crown Lynn swan with native blue mushrooms. By combining classic kiwi things, I aim to create something new and original that has a life of it’s own. At the time of writing I have a set of six paintings but will be adding more as inspiration strikes!
